Radon Permits and Codes in the Omaha Metro

Radon permits and codes in the Omaha metro vary by city and county. This page lists who to call, what the state says and what usually triggers a permit.

State rules first

Nebraska requires a license for paid radon work (DHHS), and the state sets mitigation system rules for licensed installers (Neb. Rev. Stat. 71-3507). For new homes, the passive pipe must be at least 3 inches, end at least 12 inches above the roof and away from windows, carry a label, and the attic needs an electrical box for a future fan (Neb. Rev. Stat. 76-3504). Iowa credentials apply on the Iowa side (IAC 641-44).

What usually triggers a permit

Roof penetrations

Some cities want review of a pipe through the roof.

Plumbing or sump changes

Rare, but ask if your job touches drains.

Bennington sends building permits through Douglas County Permits and Inspections (Bennington). Washington County runs planning and zoning (Washington County). See system installation page, or go back to the home page.
